


First step, chopping about a foot and a half off the bottom of the skirt. This was easy as it went along the grain, so I could see where to cut in a straight line without much hassle.

Next, fold up the hemline by about an inch and tack all the way around, tacking will hold quite well as long as you have secured firmly at the beginning and end of the thread. I hand-sewed, and so long as the stitch runs OVER the edge of the fabric, not just under it, it shouldn't fray much either. You can machine sew, but zig-zagging can fold the seam some and other ways of reducing fraying aren't as simple as just folding and tacking. The principle is the same either way though.
